Cosmosaurus
For our Advanced visual arts course, we got the assignment to form teams and create a finished animation short with a length of approximately one minute. The project was divided into three phases, ranging from pre- to post-production. We got complete freedom when it came to story, theme, mood, etc.
The short is about a dinosaur called Cosmo that dreams about going to the moon. So, he starts building his space ship but struggles building it because he has tiny hands and is a bit clumsy. |

As technical director, it was my responsibility to supply the other artists with an efficient pipeline and workflow. This involved giving the artists clear instructions on how to structure the files, and how to handle them.
One of my main responsibilities on this project was doing the particle effects and dynamics. Most of the effects were done with fluid simulations or a combination of fluids and particles. The dynamic plants were made using nCloths, so their behavior could be changed quickly. The main rig was created by my fellow technical artist Niek van Gorp, whereas I created the eye rig. |
