Ooops! Noah is gone...
" It is the last big taboo in the history of the world. And it‘s about time we talk about it. And laugh about it. Whatever happened to the creatures that missed Noah‘s ark? "
During my intern-ship at Grid VFX, I was joyed to take part of the production of Ooops! Noah is gone... This epic animation feature tells the story of Noah's ark from the perspective of the animals. |

During the production I was responsible to setup the VFX lighting in Maya to match the light setup of the lighting department, add efficient render layers and test for the best render settings. Once they came back from the render farm, I would check the image sequence for problems and flaws. The passes were comped on-top of the renders of the lighting department to check if the lighting was matching.
I wrote a hand full of scripts for Maya and Nuke to automate various steps in the process. This enhanced my productivity quite a bit. In the last weeks, when I had already finished all my shots, I was assigned to actually create splash and foam effects for two shots. I also got to work on one of the big tidal wave shots. I was assigned to setup the interaction between the scaffolding and the ark, being pushed by the flood, and have some sections collapse. This was achieved with a combination of deformers and a physics simulation in Houdini. |
